Running the Birmingham Half Marathon

Several months before the day of the race, I've been waking up at 6am everyday just to do 2 hours of jogging. To make sure I am ready for the race. To make sure I will become number one. To make sure I don't flop. Well...... xD I did try and train for the Birmingham half marathon but I actually couldn't bother. To be honest, I only did one proper training for the half marathon and it was only just to check roughly how long it will take me to run the whole thing. So I ran from Wolverhampton to Walsall and man... it was alright. It wasn't that bad, the only downside was that I wasn't wearing the correct footwear so some of my skin on my foot ripped and that :(.

Before the race I just kept on doing the usual thing I do. Exercise when I bother and eat crap loads of junk food. I barely do any cardio work. I dunno why, but my fitness is still good xP. Anyway as the day of the race approached, I started to panic, not because of the race but straight after the race I had to go to the airport to go Hong Kong. As a lad as expected, I didn't pack much for the holiday, just a few trousers, shirts etc. Anyway the thing that I was worried about was whether I was going to smell on the plane. So I quickly planned out what to do for the race. I set a personal time, I made sure I ran but not enough to make me sweat, and I made sure I drank plenty of water and take deodorant and a clean shirt with me to change into.

On the day I met up with my Indian and Muslim friend. We weren't scared of the race. We were more excited to be honest. None of us has ever ran in a half marathon before and we didn't know what to expect really. As the sound of the horn went, me and my two mates were jogging and discussing about sticking together for a few miles. Well.... it didn't work out in the end. Lol. The Indian one couldn't keep up with the immense pace of me and my Muslim friend and we did try and wait for her but we couldn't find her so we just went ahead. By the way... that was only just 2 miles into the race xD. Keekee. I was really impressed with my muslim friend because I didn't expect him to be able to keep up with me for such a long time in the race. I even thought my Indian friend would beat him. But he proved me wrong. Proud of him xP.

Me and my muslim friend we were just jogging, chilling and motivating each other through out the race. We always motivated each other by telling each other only 7 miles left, we are half way there, etc. At one point I even thought my muslim friend would beat me in the half marathon, but that didn't happen luckily xD. After like 9 miles into the race, as we approached Canon Hill Park, that was when I upped my speed cause I think I was saving all the energy running at a steady pace whilst with him xD. Anyway, I took a sip of Powerade and I felt a buzz and sprinted passed loads and loads of people.

It was proper gruesome as I approached the finish line. First of all, majority of it was going up hill, my knees were hurting and finally I had like 4 blisters and they were murdering my foot. But the thing is, I didn't let any of those problems effect my performance of the race because every where I went, the crowd always cheered me on. Saying 'Come on David'. I didn't wanna disappoint them so I never really stopped during the race and carried on running and running and eventually finished with a decent time of 2 hours and 29 mins I think.

Why I ran the half marathon
It's simple really. I wanted to run the half marathon to see what I am capable of and I always have wanted to run a marathon, so a half marathon was a starter. I wanted my two mates to run with me because I thought they would enjoy it with me, which they did. But the main motive for me to run the half marathon was to raise money for 'Children with Cancer'. I felt proud wearing the Children with Cancer shirt whilst running the half marathon. So yeah, if you have any change in your pocket or lying around in your bedroom, please can you donate the money to 'Children with Cancer'. Cheers

O o.... I recommend people to run marathons or half marathons because you get a cool medal in the end xD. Also you get free food and drinks whilst on the run. xP!!! Freebies!
